FAQ - Email campaigns

Updated today

Why include the "Open email in browser" function?

Including this function is not mandatory, but it is recommended to improve the user experience. "Open email in browser" provides an alternative way to view the email and can be valuable if the recipient encounters issues reading it.

For example, if the email contains broken image links or other display problems, it can create a poor experience and increase the risk of unsubscribing. Therefore, it is important to include a clear link encouraging recipients to open the email in their browser.

Considering that 43% of all email opens happen on mobile devices, offering alternative viewing options is especially important for recipients who may be unsure how to adjust their inbox settings to ensure links and images display correctly.

Why does the campaign look weird when forwarding?

We recommend avoiding forwarding campaigns.

When a campaign is sent through Rule and then forwarded, the email client’s settings can affect how the campaign’s code, layout, images, and other elements are displayed.

The appearance of a forwarded campaign is determined by external programs like Outlook, Gmail, and others, which may cause it to look different.

If you encounter issues with forwarding, try sending the campaign live to yourself (or via preview) or to a colleague instead.

Attaching files in campaigns

In Rule, attached files are not used in outgoing emails, but there are two ways you can still share file information:

  1. Link to the file – upload the file to your website or another storage location and include the link to it in the email.

  2. Insert the content directly into the email – if the information can be displayed as text or an image, you can place it directly in the message.

Why does our email say 'Certified by Rule'?

When billions of emails are sent across the world every day, it becomes important to distinguish between senders who are trustworthy and those who are less so.

When it says “Certified by Rule” or “Sent from Rule” in the footer, the recipient can click on it and be directed to Rule.se.

A recipient who is unsure whether the email comes from a reliable provider will then feel reassured, and can – if they wish – choose to unsubscribe from future emails, instead of impulsively clicking the spam button.

Having Rule as the provider in the footer therefore serves as a mark of quality.

How to add custom field in campaigns

Use custom fields to add personal information to your newsletters. Make sure the desired member information is available as a member field.

If you place a Heading or Text element in your email and type "/", a menu will appear where you can choose from different values to insert into the text.

In our classic editor, place the cursor where you want to insert the value and select 'Custom fields' from the toolbar in the top left of the editor window to insert it at the cursor's position.

Image Formats and Sizes

The image formats supported in Rule are JPG, PNG, GIF, and WEBP.

  • Maximum image height is 2000 pixels. Larger images will be adjusted to fit within this limit.

  • For the image to be responsive/high-resolution on a retina screen, it should be saved at double the intended size.
Example: If an image should be 200 px wide in the newsletter, it should be saved (or cropped) to 400 px wide.

  • The maximum file size is 10 MB. The smaller the image file, the faster the email can load.

  • It's worth mentioning that by double-clicking on the image block, you can access Image Properties, where you can insert a URL for an animated image file that is larger than 10 MB. Since the email "streams" the image from an external URL instead of embedding it directly, there is no size limit in this case.

Animated Images

We support animated images in .gif format, but they must follow the file size and resolution rules mentioned above.
