Integrate Tiktok Custom Audiences with Rule

This feature enables targeting of ads to specific groups of users based on their interests, behaviors, and demographic data. About the Integration

With Rules integration to Tiktok audiences, you can press the "Connect" button inside a segment in Rule to link your Tiktok ads account. Then, simply click "Synchronize", and active subscribers of the segment will be placed in a new custom audience in Tiktok Audiences.

Examples of segmentations from Rule to Tiktok Audiences could be subscribers who haven't made a purchase in 120 days. By creating an audience targeting these subscribers, you can reach them through more channels than just email and SMS.


To make the integration work, you need to have a Tiktok business account connected to Ads Manager. If you have multiple business accounts linked to Tiktok Ads Manager, you will choose which account to link during the login step.

Creating segment in Rule

  1. Click on 'Subscribers' to bring down the dropdown menu.
  2. Navigate to 'Segment'

Then, select an existing segment or create a new one. If you're unsure how to create a segment, you can read more about it here!

  1. Once you're inside your segment, click on 'Connect external audience'.
  2. Then click 'Connect' on Tiktok audiences.

When you choose to connect your Tiktok ads account, you must accept these terms

If you have multiple ads accounts, you'll get a list in Rule where you can choose the ads account that suits you best

When you have connected Rule and TikTok and pressed "Synchronize", the subscribers are transferred immediately, and you receive a notification that the export has been successful. If there is a large number of subscribers (100,000 or more), it might take a few minutes.

  1. Here you can see if the account is connected.
  2. Which account is linked.
  3. How many customers have ended up in the segment.
  4. You can also choose the status the subscribers should have.
  5. When you press "Synchronize", the members are sent over to TikTok.

When you log in to and navigate to "Tools" -> "Audience Management", you will find the audience that was recently created from Rule.

Under the "Availability" column, you can see the status of your audience. It may take up to 48 hours before your audience is matched with existing TikTok accounts.

Prerequisites for the connection to work

Create a business account on TikTok: If you haven't already, make sure to create a business account on TikTok. This provides us with access to tools and features needed for advertising. The account must then be verified.

Connect your business account to TikTok Ads Manager: Log in to TikTok Ads Manager using your business account credentials. This is where we will manage our ads and audiences, so it's crucial to have everything correctly connected.

Custom audience generation: After uploading a custom audience, it may take 24-48 hours for the audience to be generated. Keep this in mind when planning our advertising campaigns.

Minimum matched audience size: To be able to target custom audiences in an ad group, TikTok requires a minimum matched audience size of 1000. If the audience size is less than 1,000, TikTok typically shows 0 in size in Ads Manager.

Lookalike Audiences

Lookalike audiences are a powerful feature on TikTok that allows you to reach new users who are similar to your existing customers or followers. To create a lookalike audience, you first need an existing source audience that you've uploaded, for example, from Rule. TikTok then uses algorithms to analyze the characteristics of these users and find other users on the platform who share similar traits, interests, or behaviors. This new group of users then becomes your lookalike audience, which you can target with your ads to reach a broader audience with similar interests and behaviors as your existing followers. Lookalike audiences are an effective way to expand your reach and reach new potential customers on TikTok.

You select your source, which you uploaded from Rule, and you can also choose to Exclude or Include:

Omit: If you choose "Omit", TikTok will avoid including people who are already in your source audience when creating your lookalike audience. This means that people already in your source audience will not be included in the new lookalike audience.

Contain: If you choose "Contain", TikTok will include people who are already in your source audience when creating your lookalike audience. This means that people already in your source audience may also be included in the new lookalike audience.

As well as some additional settings for your lookalike audience.


All data sent to TikTok is encrypted using the SHA256 algorithm. You can read more about TikTok's encryption of user information.
