Trigger Automations for manual imports

How to send Automations to subscribers that have been imported manually

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

In this article we'll describe what triggers an Automation and show you how you can send automated messages to subscribers who've been imported via a manual import.

What triggers an Automation?

When a member is added to a Tag via an Integration, E-commerce platform, or another API connection, the member is added to the Automation flow connected to that Tag.

If you have selected a Segment as the trigger for the Automation, the member will be added if they match the Segment when they are added to the Tag that the Segment is based on.

Manual imports do not trigger the Automation flow, but it is possible to include these members in Automations by using a Custom Delay.

Custom Delay

Custom delays allows you to send an Email or SMS based on a Custom field;

Through these, you can trigger a message for your members even if they have been imported manually.

The message will then be sent to the member at the specified time when the set date occurs, regardless of how the member was added to the Tag/Segment.

It’s important to note that this only applies to members who actually have such a value, and that the value must specifically be a Date value.

Summary

If you manually import members using our import tool, it will not trigger Automation messages, either with or without a standard delay.

The only way to include manually imported members in an Automation is by adding a custom delay to the message.

This delay must be based on a date value that the member has in their member fields.
