In Rule, you can easily collect important customer information by using sign-up forms.
Sign-up forms are added to your website. When a visitor fills out a form, a contact is created in the system, making it possible to continue communicating with the person, for example through campaigns or other targeted communication.
Create a form
Click on Subscribers and then Forms.
Select New form.
Settings for sign-up form
Select Name. The name of the form is only visible internally and will not be shown on your website. The same applies to Description.
Select which Tag subscribers should be added to upon sign-up.
If you don’t already have a tag, you can create one at this step by entering a suitable name and then clicking “+”.
Select Language for your subscribers. This can be used for segmentation, for example if you communicate in multiple languages.
Fields settings
In this step, you select which fields the subscriber needs to fill in during sign-up.
The Email field cannot be removed, as it is an identifier. You can add additional subscriber fields and choose whether they should be mandatory or optional.
Under Require consent, add your consent text.
Add Link URL and Link text.
Check reCAPTCHA. It is used as protection to determine whether it is a human or a bot attempting to sign up. It protects against spam, password abuse, and bots.
Landing pages
By default, Rule provides generic landing pages that are shown after a registration, both for successful and unsuccessful sign-ups.
If you want to use your own design, you can instead specify custom landing pages. These are created and managed via your website or website provider, and can be customized according to your brand and desired content.

Confirmation email
If you choose to send a confirmation email in connection with sign-ups, select this option in this step. After that, you create the confirmation email that will be sent to all new sign-ups.
When a customer signs up, for example to a newsletter, an email is automatically sent to the customer’s inbox containing a link, allowing them to confirm that the address is correct. This is in place to prevent automated spam and to ensure that no third party can register an email address for communications without the customer’s/subscriber’s confirmation.
The most common reason why customers/subscribers are marked as “Unconfirmed” is that the recipient has not clicked this link to confirm their address.
An “opt-in” link in an email typically refers to a link or button that allows the recipient to actively consent or “opt in” to receiving communications from the sender. It is an important part of consent within email marketing and GDPR.
You add this link to a button or text by linking it to our default Double opt-in link.
HTML code that is added to your website
In the final step, the HTML code for the completed form is displayed. Click copy and paste it into the desired location on your website.
The code also includes a CSS block that you can easily customize to match your visual identity. If you’re unsure how to do this, pass the code on to the person responsible for managing your website within your organization.
Troubleshooting and Implementation
Here, we will present some tips on how to get your form live on your website, as well as how to troubleshoot it to ensure it works as expected.
Local tests
By copying the code as described above and pasting it into a text file that you save as a .html file, you can open the file in a web browser, test the form, and verify that the subscriber data is correctly added to your account.
It’s important to note that reCAPTCHA must be disabled for local testing to work.
If the test works, simply re-enable reCAPTCHA and copy the code again.
Missing confirmation email
If you have Opt-In enabled, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address provided during registration, where the subscriber needs to click a button/image/link to confirm their sign-up.
If this email is not delivered, it is most often due to the DNS settings for your sender address not being configured according to current industry standards, which can cause the email to be blocked or end up in the spam folder.
For that, we recommend following this guide.
Chat GTP
A tip for those who don’t feel confident working with HTML code when adding the form to your website is to use ChatGPT.
You can copy the code from our form tool and simply ask ChatGPT to explain how to add the code to your website or help generate a complete page with the form based on your website’s design.
We cannot guarantee that ChatGPT will generate fully functional code, so the best approach in these cases is to perform a local test as described above, and if needed, inform the tool that the code did not work and ask it to generate a new version.
It is important to note that this is a suggested alternative to handling the coding internally or hiring an external resource. We cannot guarantee that ChatGPT will solve this without further adjustments and multiple iterations.
