Get started with SMS

The SMS feature in Rule can be used to send and receive SMS from your subscribers, giving you the opportunity to communicate with your subscribers directly on their mobile phones. Send SMS campaigns to get closer to your subscribers, reach them before they visit you physically or digitally, and drive traffic to your other channels for maximum conversion.

We will go through:

  1. Activate the SMS feature
  2. Order a keyword
  3. Create SMS campaigns
  4. Other information

Activate the SMS feature

To start sending SMS through Rule, you must first activate the feature. This is done by ordering a unique keyword for customers to be able to unsubscribe from your SMS broadcasts. An example of a keyword is "VIBESTOP", which is shown below.

The keyword must contain the word "STOP" at the end and must not include any special characters or åäö.

To place an order, please send an email to support@rule.se. In your order, please include your keyword and information about which countries you plan to send SMS to, if it is outside of Sweden. The cost for a keyword is a one-time fee of 1400 SEK.

Once your registration is complete, the keyword/unsubscribe text will be added to your account. You can find it on the right when creating your campaign.

Order a keyword

The first thing you need to do is order a keyword for incoming SMS. You can order it through support@rule.se. In this example, we have chosen "GOOD" as the keyword. Once you have ordered a keyword and it has been set up, follow the steps below to set up a structure for incoming SMS.

  2. Click on 'Select fields' or 'Add email' to determine which custom fields the customer should be linked to.
  3. Choose whether you want to 'Trigger automations always'

Create SMS campaigns

  1. Click on 'New campaign'
  2. Then on 'Create SMS campaign'

  1. Choose 'Sender name'
  2. Add your subscribers
  3. If you are sending SMS to different countries, choose language here
  4. Write your SMS
  5. Schedule

  2. If you schedule the SMS, choose date and time
  3. Schedule or send

Other information about SMS

  1. Automatic SMS campaigns: To send automatic SMS campaigns, you do the same as with an automatic email, you can read more about it in the article about your first marketing automation.
  2. The only difference is that you choose SMS instead of email.
  3. Rule shortens links that are included in the SMS and are over 25 characters. If you still want to include the entire link in the email: remove https:// and only write www, but if you have your own link that Rule has not shortened, you cannot track clicks in the SMS.
  4. Please note that an additional cost is added per sent SMS (40 cents) and also remember that consent is required to send SMS. For more tips on SMS marketing, see also our blog.
  5. How do you import phone numbers in Rule? The import is done in the same way as with a regular subscriber import, either via file upload or API. In order for Rule to easily read in phone numbers during import, the number should be written in country code format, for example +4673867xxx. (46 for Sweden and removing the 0)
