Frequently Asked Questions about the Gmail Promotions Tab

In this article, we will go through Gmail Promotions Tab.

We will cover the following:

  1. What is Gmail Promotions Tab?
  2. How do I add Promotions Tab to my campaign?
  3. Bonus for those who want to use 'DiscountOffer' and 'PromotionCard'

What is Gmail Promotions Tab?

To stand out even more in the inbox, Rule offers an opportunity that allows your email to appear more prominently in the Gmail app. It's called Gmail Promotions Tab and all you need to do is add a special code to the campaigns you send out.

The configuration takes approximately one hour at the standard rate and you can order it by emailing support@rule.se.Two ways to stand out in the inbox are:"Organization": Your logo will be displayed in the sender's circle.

"PromotionCard" and "DiscountOffer": For temporary campaigns that aim to have the Gmail algorithm perceive your offer as good and relevant to the recipient, and therefore display it prominently under the Promotions tab.

  1. A - Logo (Organization)
  2. B - Discount code (DiscountOffer)

  1. C - Validity (DiscountOffer)
  2. D - Discount code (DiscountOffer)
  3. E - Image (PromotionCard)
  4. Where does the customer see Gmail Promotion Tabs?
  5. Promotion Tab is visible in Gmail's own apps for iOS and Android. At the time of writing, it is not visible in the web browser, but Gmail has announced that it will be. This profiling is also not visible in emails sent to Gmail.com but opened in another email program; for example, iOS Mail, Mac Mail, Outlook, Samsung Mail, etc.

Limitations

As the name suggests, this opportunity applies to email addresses at Gmail.com. This will not be visible for organizational addresses, even if they use Google's G Suite. Nor for Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo, or the like. In Rule's database, Gmail.com accounts for approximately 25 percent of all email addresses.

How do I add Gmail Promotions Tab to my campaign?

The Gmail Promotions Tab contains three different parts: "Organizations" (which displays your logo in Gmail apps) as well as "DiscountOffer" and "PromotionCard" (which display your potential discount code, discount rate, and an image appropriate for your campaign). Here we explain how to proceed in order for your campaign to include the Gmail Promotions Tab.

When you order the Gmail Promotions Tab from support@rule.se, we will add your logo ("Organizations") so that it appears in Gmail's Campaign feed. The price corresponds to one hour of work according to Rule's standard rate.

Deliver to us when ordering: Your logo in square format (max 1MB). Format: PNG or JPG file. Keep in mind that the image should represent your brand and look good in a small circle.

Bonus for those who want to use 'DiscountOffer' and 'PromotionCard'When you order "Organizations" from Rule, we will also add additional blocks to your campaign template if you wish. Blocks that you can drag into the current campaign to add the Gmail "DiscountOffer" and Gmail "PromotionCard" features. In the source code for these blocks, you add the discount code, discount rate, and the image that you want to appear in the Gmail inbox. If this sounds complicated, Rule is happy to help with this as well (one hour of work according to the standard rate), but the easiest way is for you to enter the data needed to make "DiscountOffer" and "PromotionCard" visible. Below we describe the procedure for this:

Once you have placed your order, we will add three blocks to your chosen template. In the first block, "Organizations", we will add the logo that you have sent to us. In the image below, you can see that these blocks become invisible in the email.

If you want to activate "DiscountOffer" and "PromotionCard", you need to drag these blocks - one at a time - into your campaign. You can see the blocks, which become invisible, if you click where you have dragged them (see red arrow below) and then the block will appear with a blue frame around it:

When the blue frame is activated, you can go to 'Source' in the upper right corner and click on the button:

After dragging in the "DiscountOffer" block, the following code will appear when you click on Source:

  1. Change the text within the quotation marks to the information that applies to your campaign after the four different content=-positions: "17% off full-price styles" can be changed to "20% off spring collection", for example. And "JoyChris" may be called "Winter Code" in your campaign. In the last two content=-positions, you specify between which dates
  2. ( NOTE: Be careful not to remove any other characters than those within the quotation marks! If you accidentally do so, drag the block back into your campaign and start over. This is to ensure that no code is missing when you send out the campaign!)

  3. After dragging in the 'PromotionCard' block - as shown in the image you have selected for the Gmail inbox - the following code will appear when you click on Source:

  4. After content=, insert a URL - for the image you want to appear in the Gmail inbox - within the quotation marks. Where it says "https://freshinbox.com/tools/gmailpromotab/assets/freshinbox-logo.png" in the image above, insert your image URL.

( NOTE: Be careful here as well not to remove any other characters than those within the quotation marks! If you accidentally do so, drag the block back into your campaign and start over. This is to ensure that no code is missing when you send out the campaign!)

  5. After making changes in the source code, adding the content you want in the newsletter/campaign, and previewing it (to a Gmail address that you open in, for example, your Gmail app on your mobile phone), you are ready to send out your final campaign!
